Harry K. Scharold is the president of H. Karl Scharold Antiques, Inc., which specializes in fine 18th and 19th century American antiques including miniatures, accessories, furniture, lighting, clocks, coffee mills, and metalware. Until his retirement in 1990, Mr. Scharold was an executive in the healthcare industry. Then an avocation became his vocation as he expanded his hobby of woodworking and the restoration of the antiques that his wife, Mary, and he had acquired. He is also known regionally for expert restoration, since he now offers these services to Houston and the Hill Country area. He is also the Houston distributor for Taig Lathe and Tools as well as for Proxxon Tools. Because of his in-depth knowledge, Mr. Scharold is asked to lecture and write articles for publication on identifying antiques and antique restoration, has taught a continuing education course through Leisure Learning, and is consulted by designers and appraisers. He is a member of the Houston Antiques Dealers Association, having served as show chair for several years. He also has served on the Collections Committee of the Heritage Society of Houston for many years, and was a director of the local chapter of the NAWCC for two years. He participates in several shows: Houston Antiques Dealers Association shows, Round Top Antique Shows, Dallas Tower Antique Show, Texas Hill Country Antique Shows in Boerne, Comfort, & Fredericksburg, and Hill Country Doll Shows in New Braunfels and San Antonio.
